For many travelers, a Sumatra orangutan tour begins in Bukit Lawang. The village sits beside Gunung Leuser National Park, where guided trails lead into tropical rainforest inhabited by Sumatran orangutans and other wildlife.
A trek is not a staged wildlife attraction. The animals move freely, and every day in the forest is different. Along the way, your guide can help you notice animal calls, tracks, plants, and details that are easy to miss when walking alone.
